Privacy Policy

Plain English summary: VoltMate collects only the data needed to provide the app's features. Your data is stored securely under your personal account, is never sold or shared with advertisers, and you can delete it at any time.
1. Who we are
VoltMate is operated by VoltMate EV (ABN 58 675 419 563), a sole trader business registered in New South Wales, Australia. In this policy, "VoltMate", "we", "us", and "our" refer to VoltMate EV.

2. What data we collect
We collect the following categories of data when you use VoltMate:
Account data
- Email address and name (used to create and manage your VoltMate account)
Tesla vehicle data (collected via the official Tesla Fleet API with your explicit authorisation)
- Vehicle state: shift state, odometer, battery level, sentry mode status
- Drive state: location (latitude/longitude), speed, heading
- Charge state: charging status, energy added, charger type and power
- Climate state: outside temperature, climate on/off
Derived data
- Trips: start/end time, distance, energy used, estimated cost, start/end location
- Charging sessions: start/end time, energy added, cost, location type
- Sentry events: timestamp, event level, camera, location (if available)
- Trip purpose tags you assign (business / personal / commute)
Usage data
- App interactions used to improve the product (e.g. features used, error logs)
AI interaction data
- Messages you send to the in-app AI assistant
- If you use your own API key (Anthropic or OpenAI), your messages go directly to that provider — VoltMate never sees them
3. How we use your data
- To detect and record trips automatically for your ATO logbook
- To track and display charging sessions and costs
- To log and analyse Sentry events from your vehicle
- To provide AI-powered insights and answer questions about your vehicle
- To send push notifications (charging complete, Sentry alerts, weekly summary) — only if you grant permission
- To maintain and improve the VoltMate service
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.
4. How we store and protect your data
Your data is stored in a Supabase database protected by Row Level Security (RLS). This means your data is logically isolated — no other VoltMate user can access your records.
Tesla access tokens are stored in Cloudflare KV with a short expiry and are never logged or exposed. Your API keys (Anthropic, OpenAI) are stored only on your device in the iOS Secure Enclave (SecureStore) and are never transmitted to VoltMate's servers.
Our infrastructure providers are:
- Supabase — database and authentication (data may be stored in US/EU regions)
- Cloudflare — serverless backend (global edge network)
- Anthropic / OpenAI — AI processing (only when you use VoltMate's default AI; your own key routes directly from your device)
5. Tesla data access
VoltMate accesses your Tesla vehicle data through Tesla's official Fleet API using OAuth 2.0. You grant access explicitly during setup and can revoke it at any time from your Tesla account at tesla.com/account under Third-Party Apps.
VoltMate only requests the minimum scopes required: vehicle data, device data (for Sentry), and vehicle commands (to enable/disable Sentry Mode). We do not request access to your Tesla financial data, personal profile, or energy products.
6. Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties except:
- Infrastructure providers listed above, solely to operate the service
- Legal requirements — if required by Australian law or a valid court order
7. Your rights under the Australian Privacy Act 1988
Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or outdated personal data
- Delete your account and all associated data
- Complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you believe we have breached the Privacy Act

8. Data retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all associated data — trips, charging sessions, Sentry events, vehicle states — is permanently deleted within 30 days.
9. Children's privacy
VoltMate is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified via the app or by email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of VoltMate after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
